Technical References - Both Soil Mechanics Laboratories maintain an extensive library of technical references pertaining to soil mechanics. The ASCE Journal of Geotechnical Engineering, Conference Proceedings, and numerous textbooks are available for consultation.

Field Assistance - Engineers and Technicians at the Soil Mechanics Laboratories are available to assist in evaluation of special problems in the field, upon request through the Director of the Conservation Engineering Division. Assistance includes but is not limited to performance of special field testing, evaluation of problems, field investigation programs, forensic investigations, and emergency work.

Training - Personnel at the Soil Mechanics Laboratories are available to assist your staff in soil mechanics related training. Examples include:

  • Unified Soil Classification System - On request, the soil mechanics laboratories can furnish samples for use in field classification training for the Unified Classification System Module. Training workbooks and videos can be obtained from NEDC in Fort Worth, Texas.

  • Design of Clay Liners for Animal Waste Storage. Workshops held on request - also presented at NEDC course.

  • Slope Stability, Workshops held on request.

  • Other Specialized Workshops can be conducted on soil mechanics topics as needed.

  • Soil Engineering for Conservation Operations - NEDC course usually held annually for 1 week in Fort Worth, Texas.
